As messed up as it is, there are people out there that love to make things difficult for others. They will attach some sort of virus or malware to the Wii unlocking files so that when you download and install them yourself, your computer or Wii will become infected.
I’ve ruined one Wii by doing this and got my computer infected another time just because I used files from a source I wasn’t familiar with. So do yourself a favor, download softmod files from the official site.

How Can you Tell Which Files are Safe?
The first thing you want to do is make sure you don’t download any files from those free file-sharing sites.
